What would be the best camera to buy for strictly Macro work. I have used a 5D, 30D and a 350 D. They differ vastly in the quality they deliver. The 5D gives me excellent landscapes and portraits but I feel that the 350D gives me better quality in macro. I have not used the 30D a lot, however it seems to bbe somewhere in between.

So if I have to buy a camera thats going to last and dedicated to Macro - what should I get?

A long time ago I had lots of gear - now I make do with one camera & one lens.;)

i would say that any camera is good for macro, how heavy it is , it's the lens that count

Doubt if you would notice any difference between the 350D and 30D in terms of picture quality. As stated above it's the lens and photography technique that's more important. I think the 1.6 crop cameras do have advantages over FF cameras though.

From an IQ point of view, I don't think you'll see much difference between a 350D/400D/20D/30D. The 5D has better IQ, but being full frame introduces some other issues that can affect macro photography if I understand it correctly. The 1.3x crop 1 series cameras are a compromise between the full frame units, and the prosumer 1.6x crop series of cameras. IQ is there, not necessarily better, but what you're paying for is a plethora of features and supreme camera build and weathersealing. If you're out and about with one of the prosumer cameras and it rains your camera has a high chance of dying. My 1D will survive :)

The main thing is the person behind the camera. A lot of Brian's shots were taken with his 350D and I think that says a lot.
