After browsing the threads Ive noticed several posts referring to gear they have bought that was directly influence by these forums. Id like to hear all that has been purchased.

Post all the gear that you have bought that has been influenced by being a member here. Note: Buying the same item more than once doesnt need to be repeated. (Stipulation made specifically made for 'Mr Brick'...Ronald S. Jr:p)

Here are mine-
~50mm f/1.8=$70
~Opteka Battery grip=$80
~Manfrotto 3021 BPro=$160
~Manfrotto 488RC2=$101
~Alien Bees 'Beginner Bee'=$360

EDIT: Forgot about these
~Giottos Rocket Blower-$10
~SterlingTek Battery-$12

Total=$793+some photography knowledge (not too shabby)

Let's see... I had a G5 and a film Minolta when I first became a member, and now I own all the stuff listed in my sig, plus three lowepro camera bags (in three sizes), plus assorted gadgets, spare batteries, spare CF cards, etc. I also found it necessary to purchase Photoshop CS2 (deeply discounted on eBay, but hey I'm just an innocent buyer), and then a new laptop and desktop that can actually run CS2. And then there is the external hard drive I had to get to store pictures safely. And the external DVD writer to put on my work computer so that when I process photos at work, I can take them back home. I guess its no wonder that the house I bought 2 years ago is still sparsely furnished, has the original "contractors' paint" on most of the walls, and is mostly devoid of artwork.

Everything I have. I started out on POTN with an Olympus P&S. I was looking for a DSLR and POTN provided me with all the info I needed.

Not that I dont appreciate the posts but just to clarify, Im not looking for all the stuff that has been bought SINCE you became a member, Im looking for the things that been have directly influenced since you became a member.

I have more gear, they just were not influenced by POTN. I was going to make the 75-300(I think thats the one, known to be a hunk-a-junk) my first lens but read reviews all around about the poor quality, after asking here I was swayed to get the nifty. Same goes for tripods, I was content with the p.o.s I had but after reading and asking around (Skip D) I now own the combo you saw in my original post.(And glad I did get influenced)

So who has posted stuff that they didn't buy since becoming a member of POTN?

Im simply stating, I know how these threads can get off track. Ive bought alot of gear since becoming a member but not all of it is because I was a member.

I'm fairly certain that all of the gear I bought since becoming a member was because I was a member, because there is no other way I would have figured out what to try out/buy. Also it was seeing the photos posted that made me want to buy certain lenses, so I would have a chance of getting those sorts of shots. So I wasn't trying to throw the thread off track or anything. :)

No please dont misunderstand what Im saying, Im not accusing you of throwing a thread off track, not by any means. I know how threads on here go, so Im stating it early:p, thats all. Ive started threads that went north where at first we were heading kind of south west-ish:p. It may be just me but POTN didnt influence me to buy the CF cards I have or the Photoshop program, but then again no telling what Ill own a few months down the road. I might even own a macro lens:D, if I go to that section of the forum, lol.

This site is truely addicting and infulential. And I love it.:D:D

Lol, reminds me of any and all expensive non-photography related purchases I have made. I always think to myself," Man I could have gotten that flash, or lens for that price"

FWIW, I do ask around POTN before buying most stuff, even brand/size of CF card. So it depends on what you mean by influenced. Yes, I would have eventually bought more CF cards, but I bought a Kingston 40GB card based on recommendations from forum users. Same with the camera bags. I asked people what worked, what they liked, and they even showed me photos of their bags with gear in it. And one bag I even bought from a forum member, so I think its safe to say I'm nearly always SUI (shopping under the influence). Permie even helps me load my shopping cart and push it around the B&H website, bless her wittle heart! Same deal with Photoshop. I was perfectly happy with PhotoImpact and Elements until I started seeing what others on here did with CS2. Maybe I need to get out more, lol.

To be honest, just my 85 1.8 and 17-40 and my 550EX. The rest, I would've bought regardless of what was said here.

I'd been waiting for a cheap-ish full-frame body since I got my 10D three years ago. I bought my 200 2.8L on a whim after selling a Sigma 70-200 2.8  . I've never seen anyone here mention the bag I just bought (Lowepro Magnum AW, I love it). I bought one of the very first Epson P-2000's ever to get into the UK after I was on warehouseexpress's waiting list for about 4 months, then all-of-a-sudden everyone here had one !

And all my studio flash kit was just the best I could afford at the time based on an online review from some bloke at warehousexpress.

But I enjoy the chit-chat !

Gary.
