Wireless Print Servers

Does anyone here use them, or had any experience?

I guess I could also use a wired print server too.

I've got a Canon IP4300 and a brother multifuntion printer that I would like to hook up wirelessly, so that I don't need to leave second computer running all the time.

I've heard some have compatibilty issues also (such as no monitoring of ink levels, no multifunction support, or printer just won't work with it.)

I had an Epson RX500 multifunction that I wanted to use in another room wirelessly with my laptop. No go. I just couldn't get it to function properly. All that extra stuff you mention just wouldn't work and only every now and then would it print. I upgraded to a network printer, an HP 2610 all-in-one.

However, I have a friend who has just a basic HP (forget the exact number) photo printer and he has had good luck with a print server connected to his wireless router. I could find out some more details if you need.

Yeah, I'm wishing now I would have looked more seriously at built-in networking... I'm really surprised its apparently so difficult to get one of them to work properly, and with all types of printers.

I was using a wired HP JetDirect Print Server with my Epson 1280, it printed fine but I didn't get any ink level info.

Are your printers in the same room as your main PC? If not, then how far are they, since you can get an extended USB cable with a repeater and slap a USB Hub near the two printers.

I'm usually downstairs with laptops; and printers, wireless router, and other computer are all upstairs.
