The Sweet 16 is here in San Jose! woohoo.

I took a long lunch and went to one of the practice, Southern Illinois. Alots of TV cameras and white lenses and a few Nikon shooters. I shot for about 45min from the end stand behind the bastket and sure enough, a guy looked like George Costanza walked up and said I have a "professional camera and I needed to check it in". So I left the building. I asked a security to follow me to make sure I leave.

It was just a freaking practice that opened to the public with about 40 people watching.

Some pics

1. Claim your spot NOW!... this is the photographers real estate layout. I hope everyone use deodorant. LOL hahaha

Looks like you got some nice shots. :)
I'm booked this weekend, otherwise I'd have been tempted to wander down there myself.

The picture of the photographer "real estate plots" is too funny; you're not kidding about the deodorant!

Too bad about getting "shooed" out of there; NCAA is big enough that it's about the money, too, I guess.

Looks like the lighting was pretty good in there. However, I guess that's a benefit of the money! :) And, I have to ask the ubiquitous question: ISO/lens combo?

I still think its BS that just because one has a DSLR we are automatically assumed to be pro's. Not to go off-topic here, but grrrr... I've had this happen to me from just carrying my DReb....w/o the grip too!

Great Shots BTW!

Kevin, the light is really really good there. I was able to shoot ISO 800 f2.8 1/320 1/400 AWB with the 20D and the 70-200.
I know for real games they enforce the "professional cameras" rule but for a freaking practice ??? It may be the arena's rule and not NCAA. However, I went to a SAP open game and saw no less than 5-6 white lenses there on the stand.

DizzyV6P. thanks. It was a bless to shoot in a pro lighting arena. :)

The seats are assigned. I'm still going early today to talk to the photo marshal who is in charge just to make sure I have a good spot(especially for the non-UCLA game). I'll probably shoot at 1000 or 1250 so i can do like 1/640.

As for regulations, its much more than having a DSLR. It can help by fooling some people, but you need during the game, an arm band and also credentials that say you are a photographer. I'll photograph it later today.

Nice photos Sonny. I forgot you live up north!!

PS:
And I heard there's a bunch of hot girls from University of Toronto helping out

PPS:
Yes, there are a decent amount of photogs that smell. In Sactown, I was sitting next to a guy....ehhh

I think I starred more and the camera woman than the actual basketball shots, . Nice series though. I hope S. Illinois can pull it out. I love underdogs.

Great shot of the camera woman. :)

Too bad you got the boot. You have a nice story to tell, though, and they last as long as your pictures.

I have some pictures of girls, yes, that is correct. :)

Right now, there are some on dailybruin.com's site from the 1st/2nd round that I got in Sactown.

Greg, I saw those shots on Bruins' site. Nice shots. It was a good game and as the article said " grinding victory".

Looking at the photographer area on TV it looked so packed. How close were you to others?

Good luck with the KS game.

Can't wait to see more gi... eh... I mean basketball shots. :)

For the KU/SIU game, i sat in the back for when Kansas attacked me. Then I got the front row when SIU attacked the second half. I was on the side away from the benches.

For UCLA, the first half(cloest to the benches), I saw near the basket. I got hit by the basketball like twice. Definitely a place to get hit at(although I did get run over by Mata and an Indy player in Sactown).

2nd half I got a spot towards the middle on the opposite side of the court.
