At the end of February, I purchased one used from KEH. On eBay, the lenses were auctioned for $600 to 900. On KEH.com, the ones listed in EX+/- seemed to be about $800-900 and they had a bargain version for $599.

When did they stop making this lens? Is it still a good buy even though its NON IS? I am hoping this will compliment my 70-200 f/2.8 IS when 200 mm just dont cut it.

I wonder how long I have to hang out on POTN before I get as good as Ansel Adams ?

Does anyone know if Canon will still service this lens?

It does not show up in the drop down menu for Canon USA Online Repair tracking and you are supposed to call them if your model does not show up.

they are still serviceable and there are plenty of parts for them.
In regards to sharpness they are a touch sharper than the IS version due to much less lens elements.
It's a great lens and super sharp.
I bought mine for $AU 900 which is about $US 740

I wonder what part really fails on these old lenses. Going by the date codes some of these lenses are pretty old (10 years) and even if they were NEVER used I am sure that their moving parts (USM motor, focussing mechanism etc) have an MTBF to contend with.
