These pictures was taken by the pool at the resort we stayed at in orlando. It was really cool watching this egret stalk anoles as he walked by us, but I have to admit I feel a little sorry for the lizard. A moment after these where taken, he was swallowed alive in one piece. Hope you like the pics.

Mark

So much for the egret being a shy bird.

Bye-bye little lizard.

We need more herons and egrets making meals of brown anoles. Not that it would stop their invasion. Awesome captures.

Thanks for the comments. I know there have been anoles in Fl at least since I came here as a kid. Are "brown anoles" new invaders from someplace else?

Thanks again.

I never knew the names of the lizards, but when I lived in Miami, 1978-79, there was an article in the paper about a lizard war going on. Some new species had been imported from one of the islands as was wreaking havoc on the indigenous species, killing them and not eating them, although the birds would. You could go out early in the morning and find their little bodies all over the sidewalks and along the fence. It truely was a war. :)

We used to have green ones that would change colors to blend into their surroundings. The brown ones came over on a Banana boat a couple decades ago. They are more aggressive and stronger than the green ones and also eat the green ones eggs. I seldom see the cute little green ones any more but I have a brown lizard factory in my yard.

Nicely timed and good shots.
