Hey guys,

I'm currently debating on a domain name and wether i should choose it or not. This will be my first website so I would like it to be a name I would keep.

At this time I would have gone with:

csknphoto.com

cskn being my initials: Christopher Samuel Kamal Naidu.

Anyone have any suggestions? You can use my name/initials in any way.

Thanks.

Well, using your initials you are guaranteed to still have an attachment down the road.

I say why not.

Do you have an idea on the type of photography you will specialize in?

I'd chose something easier to remember. If you told me that website I'd never remember it by the time I got to my computer. Also, it is difficult to say.

How about Naiduphotography.com or Naiduphoto.com instead. You have a nice sounding last name, use it :)

Right now I've found myself doing a bit on sports. I dont have much intention to go this route though.

I would like to specialize in glamour/portraiture but i guess you could say that I'm still trying to build my roots.

This is why I would like to just keep it as contemporary as possible. Thinking of having three sections like sports, portaiture, and urban. Threee obviously very different categories, but just to show my strengths...sound good?

This way, you're sure that everyone will make at least one typo!

More seriously, I would choose something that is not your name. Try something original, but that the common people know how to spell. (I chose my name for my business name. Now if I want to sell my business, it may be a bit hard  Plus the fact that my business is now permanently linked to my name. If anything goes wrong, my name can be affected for quite some time...)

Use your last name for two reasons. The first is that it'll be easy for people to remember. "Okay, now what's that Naidu fellow's site? Oh, yes, naiduphoto.com." The other is that it gives you some credibility. It says "I'm not afraid to attach my name to my work." Together, it makes for a very nice domain name.

My general policy on domain name choosing is "whatever isn't taken." You'd be surprised how many names you can come up with, are already registered at this point.

Using the last name as part of the url name sounds like a good idea - I wouldn't use the whole name, but a last name can be identifying w/out being quite as difficult to sell later if indeed you wished, if that makes any sense.

That doesn't work for me tho - my name is too common. Already taken, just about every variation. lol

Luck.

I agree, I think Naidu is a great name, these are certainly more memorable than using initials.

I'm lucky I bought all my domains many many years ago :D

I might as well ask...

if i have a macro (flowers/nature mostly) gallery and I want to title it, what should it be? Should i call it 'macro' or 'close-up' or what?

Because I had no clue what the heck macro was before i got into this world, so I'm worried viewers will not. Should i leave it as macro and let their curiosity click on it and see what this 'macro' really is?

Edit: there wont be any preview picture of whats in the gallery (well, thats what i'm planning), this is why i'm asking.

Just my opinion: as long as the majority of the photos are either "true" macros or at least pretty close-up close ups, I'd call it macro.

If there will be a lot of less close-up close ups along w/the super-macros, you could call the folder ... CloseUps/Macro! :)

Cool, thanks.

My worry was if people would understand the name but i just realized if they are on the site, they will most likely click on it.

I was bored so i decided to draw in PS.

Is something like this too simple to the point where its boring? This is home, Though i might have an enter page. Mind the naidu photografix and sub sections ... I'm just playing with it to see if i like.
