Yay or nay? I thought these were quite the interesting powerlines, so I snapped a couple shots. This one was the best. What do you think?

C&C Appreciated.

Not a bad subject: interesting even! It really shows the ugliness of our power/telephone system (sorry! when I was a kid, I noticed powerlines and wondered why we didn't bury all of them underground)

I just find that the main subject is not well lit at all. It's backlit, so we can't make up any details in the cables, wires, connectors, etc. You may want to play with curves in Photoshop to bring out the details in these components. Also, there is almost no color in your shot. Did you do this on purpose? Have you considered a B&W photo instead?

Just some tips and pointers! ;)

Cost! - about 10-15x I believe.

Interesting subject but they look more like phone lines to me though...

Oh, I realize that now (I was a kid when I asked myself that question)! But nevertheless, it's not the prettiest sight!

Not true for all geographic locations. I live in Miami, Florida. Florida Power & Light used to have all power lines above ground but whenever a Hurricane comes they spend insane amounts of money in repairs and overtime AND lose money for the time that the service is down. They have finally realized that this is costing them money in the long-run in comparison to the one time cost of burying the lines.

I cannot beleive I just wrote a paragraph about power line placement. I am going to reevaluate my life and it's worth now. Goodbye.

I always notice power lines as I am driving along. Seems like with all the tecnology and advances in the world, something could be done about power/telephone lines. It's like they are the last holdback from the early 1900's. Looks so...Model T :). Nice shot, I wouldn't have thought to take that shot.

There are a number of "wires aficianados" her on POTN and even a thread HERE
It's quite workable. Agree that details are lost . . . levels, curves, or even a bit of dodging in the shadows and a touch of burn can bring those out more or move toward a stronger silhouetted shot if desired.

Always shooting wires myself. Feel there is "something" there, but never quite seem to capture just what it is.
