White Faced Heron in flight - Kapiti Island

Hello,

Spent a wonderful day at Kapiti Island today. Most of the birds we can identify, but not quite sure about this one. I think it is a white faced heron which is quite unusual for the area

Does anyone know the definative answer?

I concur. It's a White-face Heron, and can be found in NZ.

I like this shot a lot, and really would love to see more of this Heron! (i've not even seen a pic on the forum before that I can recall)

I have one other shot of the Heron but it is flying away and the head is covered by the wing.

This was just before I got too close and it took flight
