I am heading to Houston this weekedns for some NHRA drag racing. I have a 70-200 2.8, but will be borrowing a friends 100-400L. I have never used IS before and I know that this lens has a couple of settings. Any help or tips for using the IS system with this lens? Thanks

Get a monopod, set the 100-400L IS to Mode 2 and get cracking on your panning skills!

The 70-200 would work really well to freeze the action off-the-line, too.

Mullet,

I've used the 70-200 from row 6 in Gainesville at the starting line with very good results. Also I've used the 100-400 from the same spot with OK results. Just from my limited drag racing experience your going to be shooting at a high shutter rate (>1/1000) with trying to get the shot at the launch. If going for a pan shot down track your shutter speed will be slower than 1/1000. If so move to the #2 setting this is for panning, a monopod is not your friend this weekend just go hand held.

Enjoy the weekend.

Rick
