I've been playing with a single-light-and-makeshift-studio setup lately.. this is my most recent effort:

The fact that I can see his upper cheek in the second shot but not his eye throws it for me. The first shot is good though.

#1 looks good. I agree with Sam about the second one. The eye is just too dark.

I too agree with Sam. #1 is my choice as well

The Rembrandt lighting in the first is amazing. The second one isnt as drastic but it sill looks good.
