please excuse me while I cuss and throw all my small test prints up in the air...and not caring at all where they land ..(preferably into the garbage BTW). I cant belive Ive been messing with this i9900 printer for 4 years now without doing some kind of color managment. uugghhh..I have been messing with trying to "monkey" the color through PSP and wasting alot of ink and paper...ggrrrr
thanks for having this thread to at least help point me in some kind of direction...even if I do have a hugeeee headache now trying to understand what the heck everyone is talking about. after a few hrs of reading and trying and rereading..I think Im on the right track. but now..my colors are all messed up for loading things to the web..so I'll have to figure out what to do about that..goodness.
I dont think my computer and printer....will ever be the same again...lol but as long as they print with the color I want...it's all good...lol
thanks again. :)

this is a great thread . . and i'm sure it will be very helpful with my new pixma pro9000!

but first things first, . . in easy photo print pro . .when i go to select a file, (and this doesn't always happen) the thumbnail shows up as a red x. i'm sure its a silly answer but i can't find it.

thanks :)

edit: answered my own question . .converted the profile :)

Probably not (well), since it's a different printer.
Here (external link) you can download profiles for the Pixma Pro 9500.

I have an old printer. The Canon I900D. Can some one point me in the right direction to find profiles for it? Thanks. I'll probably have more questions later.

I ran a google search for "Canon paper profiles" and this thread popped up in the results.

I took a look at this link, Rene, but it doesn't list an option for the Pixma Pro 9000 Mk II. Are there paper profiles available for this printer with their papers. I'm looking to use the Pro Platinum line of papers, possible some of the other glossies, such as Canon Photo Paper Glossy, Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II, and Canon Photo Paper Pro.

I'm thinking of ordering a few boxes of the LTR and 13 x 19 sized Pro Platinum and the LTR sized Photo Paper Glossy is pretty cheap @ $15 per 100 sheets and use that for some basic printing and the Pro Platinum for more "fine art" type prints.

But since I don't have paper profiles and canon doesn't have any on their website, I'm worried that the Pro Platinum paper won't be fully taken advantage of by the printer. My Color Munki Photo colorimeter, I think, can make custom profiles. Am I going to have to venture into custom profiling?

Then again, if you have a ColorMunki, why not use it?

Hmm..looks like the profiles were installed, they just have cryptic numerical file names rather than text based like the profiles from Epson or Ilford, for example.

Might try out the color munki and see what kind of results I get over the canon standard profiles.

I'm planning on purchasing a Pro 9000 mark ii. In one of the reviews, someone said
"One problem is that the driver for OSX does not allow for shutting off color management. So, if you build or use a custom profile, you're pretty much screwed if you try to print with a program that tries to manage colors. As of the writing of this review, there is no 64-bit version of the driver available."
Is this true when using a Pro 9000 mark ii with a Mac? I was considering buying this combo. Any help will be appreciated.

I have both and haven't had any troubles. However, Easy-PhotoPrint EX comes with the Pro 9000 printer, and it does a wonderful job. It's a standalone application you can use to print any photo. If you want to print with PhotoShop and don't want to go through the hassle of trying a myriad of printer/paper profiles, you can download Easy-PhotoPrint Pro from Canon and install it as a plugin in PhotoShop (I use CS5 on my Mac). Anyway, download and install the software, which in turn will automatically install the plugin in PhotoShop. The next time you launch PhotoShop to print a photo, just do the following:

a. Open the image you want to print with PS
b. In the PS File menu, click on "Automate," and go down the list to Easy-PhotoPrint Pro
c. Follow the dialog, and then "print"
d. Now the Mac print window will appear on the screen. Make all the necessary changes for print quality, paper type, etc., and then "save as" with an unique name you may want to use next time, and then print the image. You may want to use the settings mentioned by the OP (first page of this thread).

There appears to be a major disconnect between any photos stored in iPhoto or Phoroshop or Preview and my cheap mp620 printer. My MacBookPro renders the images perfectly and I don't need to change them, but the printer will not come close to rendering them correctly. I've tried all the colorsync settings, but none seem to work very well.

I use the Kodak ultra premium paper because the knock-off brands never came out as well, but lately, the grass in the background is yellow instead of green, but most of the other colors are true. The auto 2005 format seems to work best - but not very well. Isn't there some way to tweak the overall color balance to get what works?

Perhaps I'm too unsophisticated to get the end result I'd like to see. I don't even know what Lightroom is and why it is talked about in so many posts about color management. I open up the printer utility and select the colorsync profile that works best - but none do.

Are you reasonbly confident that you have a good supply of ink(s)?

I assume there's no icc profile for your printer and that paper?
In that case, you're playing a guessing game…
