The skies over Manila were unusually clear the past few nights, and this enticed me to bring out my mooning gear....;)

Here's sharing a moonshot taken a few minutes ago with the 100-400 IS + Canon 2x TC:

And here's a much bigger one from the Sigmonster + Canon 2x TC taken the other night:

Liquidstone, would you say that the original shot on the 100-400+TC is sharper the the siggy combo or not?? and with the term "sigmonster"... do you mean the 300-800? (sorry, I'm always getting mixed up!)- don't worry, just saw it in your sig!

BTW, they are both great shots!

Romy,
After seeing your pictures taken with your Sigmonster of the moon, I thought it would be interesting to try a shot with my Sigma 80-400mm OS hand held and wide open. Our seeing isn't as good as you have in your part of the world but I gave it the old college try about the same time you did last night. It is not as good as I get through one of my telescopes, but shows what can be done. Your photographs are very much on par with the images taken with an APO refractor.
What can be said about two retired guys out at night shooting the moon?

My 100-400 is an excellent copy (as sharp as my 400 5.6L) but both aren't in the same league as my Sigmonster (300-800) or 500 f4.

At 100% view, the Sigmonster + 2x moonshot is sharper. I can even stack a 2x+ 1.4x behind the Sigmonster and still get decent moonshots.

Here's a 100% crop from the Sigmonster + stacked 2x/1.4x, on the 1DM2:
