If I were you OP, I would stop buying and selling equipment (and loosing money in the process) and get into a photography class.

Know each of your equipment, learn how to use their potential and take better pictures.
I know, some of us (including me) love the feeling of acquiring new rig - but there's so much things you can do to improve your self - one of them is developing your very own style.

And next time you go out and buy something - research them for at least a few days from non-biased sources. Who knows, after those few days, you will realize that you dont really need or want it.

Just my opinion so you may take or leave it ;) - No offense meant or anything.

None taken, I appriciate your thoughts and concern!:D

I am guessing your daughter is copying Dad. That makes the 800 a nice way of getting your kid involved in photography.

August, it looks from your sig that you have a great line up of lenses. 2 great zooms and 2 great primes. If you don't need anything else, based on your shooting style, then you made the right choice.

There have been many times I wish I had a P&S with me. My wife carries it all the time, but I think I might need one for myself.

Way to go!

I think you made the right choice. There are times when a P&S means bringing your camera or not bringing your camera. I've found it hard to get the shot when you don't have your camera.

That's why I have little boys with little cameras. When I don't have my big set-up, their little P&S A530 is just right. Don't feel like you made a bad choice. Let's remember to use all the gear we have or else, what's the point?

What does the SD800 have over the SD700?? If I had a P&S, its anyway a standby and unless it was a really old one, I wouldnt upgrade it.

I have no imagination.
Why do you think I shoot sports?

Careful. We sports shooters can be a little sensitive about our lack of imagination.

As for the red eye issue with the P&S, just put a piece of Scotch Magic Tape over the flash to alleviate the problem. It's a poor man's diffuser. :)

I wanted something "newer." Plus, I wanted a wider angle, and the latest IS and features like face detection. Hey if I'm gonna have high end DSLR stuff, my P&S needs to keep up too.:D

My wife and I are forever fighting over the IXUS 800IS (=SD). I have to use a jimmy bar to get it off her!

I use the video camera HEAPS! I record bits n' pieces at weddings. When putting the dvd together (PSG), I'll often use some snippets as opening sequences, or backgrounds etc.

I get humbug with the manual settings tho'. Too many menus, buttons, beeps and stuff for me. However 'she' flies through them like nobody's business.

Cheers to you Sam. And may I never suffer the pain of having to share my electronic toys with a soul mate.

Wouldn't the heat from the flash burn the glue onto the flash unit?

IMHO August, if you can afford it get what YOU want. Still a cheaper hobby than race cars.
