Is it ok to carry my 30D (2lb 10oz) & attached Sigma 150mm Macro (2lb 4oz) together plus an attached to the lens monopod and head weighing 2lb 3oz using the neck strap attached to the camera to carry it all. A total of 7lb 3oz hanging from the strap with 4lb 7oz hanging from the lens mount - will it take it without any problems?? Should be ok as some lenses weigh more than that but thought I'd check. Thanks in advance.

Aside from that it's going to be kinda awkward to have the monopod still attached while you're carrying the camera around your neck, usually when you're using the larger lenses they have their own straps so you're not hanging the lens off the body mount but rather the body off the lens mount. Get yourself a quick release or carry the works by the monopod over your shoulder. That way you don't have to collapse the monopod either.

Yeah, I second Jon's opinion about the QC plates, if only for safety. You really don't want to trip with a monopod hanging around your neck.

Thanks for the help guys. It's really not a problem carrying it that way, quite comfortable really, just wondering if it would do the camera any harm.

I have a QR plate on every 'pod, and on each body and lens collar. That way, I have options. I can leave camera and lens on the monopod, and hoist it over my shoulder like a pick-axe, or I can detach the 'pod, and use it as a walking stick while the camera/lens hangs from the strap.

When I use my BIG tripod (3033), I carry it over my shoulder, and the camera/lens doesn't add much to it.
