Interestingly, the spider jumps by pumping fluid hydraulically into tissue in its legs, rather like a mammalian penile erection, except the erection happens suddenly rather than gradually, hence the spring.

I have just found this one again, and in the very same place it was photographed last year, the 1st photo is full-frame re-sized on a 11mm frame, and the 2nd is 100% crop .

So visually i would say its around 4mm maybe ? ...

Anyone have an ID on this one? I have been told it might have been a white crab spider on a different forum. It was a jumper.

Lisa - think it's a sac spider (Gnaphosidae), often nocturnal hunters.

I'm pretty sure our little black jumper with the green pedipalps is a Heliophanus species.

That ID looks about right , i think were up to around four at the moment, i keep looking in bushes and trees when i`m out and about in the hope i may spot a different one ...
