I see a lot of folks purchasing 30D(s) and 5D(s) right now, and I'm biting my lip wondering how many of them will be upset when Canon likely announces a new round of rebates in a few days. We're bound to see the usual posts that say "And I just purchased my camera! Thanks Canon!!!"

Now, I know that the rebates are strictly a rumor at this point, and if the rebates do actually surface we don't even know which models they offer a rebate on...but I know that if I was getting ready to spend $1,100 on a 30D or $2,800ish on a 5D, I'd love to save some money that could be used elsewhere. I realize that not everyone cares about saving money, and some folks do not want to wait for the next good deal because it's easy to get caught in the trap of always waiting for the next good deal. But potentially saving 100+ dollars for 4 or 5 days of waiting time seems very reasonable to me!

I realize this is a topic to be discussed in the Rumors forum, but is there a chance that we could keep it going here in hopes of more people seeing it? It would be nice to prevent frustration for our fellow POTN readers who aren't as "research-savvy" when it comes to buying. :p

Just to add something to the rumors:

That German shop usually post the total available cashbacks just like that. However, 230€ for 400D with grip and 17-85IS sounds like a lot! Here's to hoping it's not an error, and that the cashback for 5D with 24-105 will be proportionally bigger!

I've made purchases due to the rebates twice, but I didn't wait for the rebate, just got tempted by them. You never know which products are going to be on the list. If you are not doing this professionally and need the gear, I'd say wait a month. If it doesn't look like Canon is going to do anything, then decide.

I feel very sorry for you if you're always waiting for rebates.

I got my 30D using double rebates + PSJAN B&H code about 3-4(?) weeks ago, so it ended up being $886 (body only) and I already got the rebates back!

If a 40D comes out next month... it'll be $1,400 easily, so I will have no remorse buying a 30D. (note: there is no way the 40D is coming out next month, but it's just an example!)

I was in the process of saving money to buy a 30D, and was about a month away from buying one. I then discovered that the rebates were currently running, and my girlfriend told me "just go for it"... so I didn't wait to save more, and just picked it all up right away. Had there been no rebates, I still would have bought it at the $1,100 price mark. It's well worth it!

We can wait and wait all our lives for the newest and greatest, but we're just wasting our time doing so.

I got my 20D with the rebates and the 30D came out right after. No remorse. I love my 20D and would have done it again.

"Pay more UK" for Everything is the order of things.

I think we are subsidising the rest of the world on everything....

Rebates are great and all, but you have to receive the check! I would be quite surprised if they start another rebate period 4/1 given the extension on last year's fall promotion.

But you get medical care and you get what you pay for. Medical care in the US is top notch and pretty fast.
