I just got my used 1Dmk2 - how do I change the "Owner Name" tag that is in EXIF data? I'd rather have my name displayed that the other guy's. I'm assuming that I need to use the EOS viewer utility or a similar piece of software, but the previous owner misplaced it.

Can someone please specify exactly which piece of software I'll need to change this, so I can borrow it from other EOS wielding friends?

Thanks

you'll need the firewire cord, usb won't work IIRC

haven't had my connected for a long time

Its very difficult to get teh software, Canon charges for it but provides free updates for it. Search here and I'm pretty sure others have found links or copied it and uploaded it.

Thanks for that link Hermeto...I'll try it out tomorrow if I can find a copy of the software. When I find out what works, I'll post back with a definitive "how-to".

A related question: I have set my owners name in my 1D2, but it *only* shows up in EVU, *not* in PSCS2 or iView... I had a loan 1D from CPS once, and that camer's files had 'CPS' set as owners name, and it *did* show up in iView (don't know about PSCS2, don't have any 'straight out of the camera files' anymore: Added/changed IPTC in iView).
Ideas?
Not a big deal, but it would be nice.... Just like it would be nice to get PS to 'default' show copyright status as "Copyrighted" instead of unknown"...

Maybe PSCS2 and/or iView only display that field if it's not too long?

Don't think so.
Here (external link) are two jpgs straight out of the cameras. In the 1D file, 'date created', 'creator' and 'source' are filled in iView. PSCS3 shows nothing ???. On the 1D2, no fields filled anywhere.
Oddly, the other 1D I used from CPS only had these fields filled when shooting RAW. That cameras jpgs had no info either.
ISTR I used yet another 1D, which also had the 'description' field filled, but I can't find any 'out of camera' files from that one...

First one shows in IEXIF 2.25; second doesn't. Both are readable in Irfanview. ISTR that sometime between the release of the D60 and 20D (sorry I can't place it any closer off the top of my head, but that's between release dates of the 1D example FW 1.3.0 and 1D II example FW 1.2.4) the JPEG spec was changed at least slightly. This may have broken some things.

With the 5D, you can do this easily via the USB lead and Zoombrowser. EOS utility is not needed. I don't see why the other dSLR should be different.

Depends on the supplied software, but the 1D series, by design, require FireWire for anything but DPOF. And that includes setting Owner Name.

Never thought about checking EXIF in safari...

In safari I see my name in the second, no info in the CPS camera.
Using a plug in in Firefox, I see the info in both....

Must be the jpeg 'standard' being a bit not-so-standard ;)
