I just bought an SD800 IS a month ago and everything was working fine. I was able to view pictures on my tv once and download the pictures from the camera to the computer using the USB cable once.
However, since the first go around, I can no longer do either tasks. I have tried everything from un-installing and re-installing ZoombrowserEX to using a new Memory Card but to no avail.

I think the AV Port is damaged since the functions that don't work seem to be related to connections to this port.

Has anyone experienced this problem? I think I need to send the camera to fix the AV port

Any experience is greatly appreciated!

Queenie

Well, viewing the pictures on a TV and downloading them to a computer use different ports, and you can't have both hooked up at once. Are you using only one cable at a time? And have you tried different cables?

Hi Jon
Yes I'm using only 1 cable at a time. My problem initially started with viewing on the TV and couldn't get it to work after the first try with any of the AV ports on the TV. So I gave up on that.
Shortly after, I loaded the ZoombrowserEX software on my computer. I was able to download picutres from my camera the first time, but not since then. I know my computer recognizes the camera because I can see the camera's connected using windows explorer. I have tried everything from uninstall and reinstall software, to using a new memory card. The one thing I did not try was new cables. I have to buy new cables to do that. The fact that I was able to activate the first time and not since then makes me think the first go at it fried each port.

When you plug the camera into the computer does the computer recognize that a USB device has been connected to it? Even if it decideds it's an "unknown device"?

Interesting question. My computer doesn't give me the message that a new device is connected. But I can see that the camera is connected when I look at my C: drive and is labelled SD800IS. I can also open and see the pictures via the windows explorer by clicking on this node.

Are you going through the suggested steps on pp. 28-29 and have you verified the Image Transfer settings as described on p. 30 of the Basic user's guide?

Hello
I just got off the phone with Canon support. I'm posting this in case anyone else may need help.
The display on the TV we couldn't resolve. The Canon rep says its either a cable problem or a problem with the port. I will try out a different cable, otherwise I will be sending the camera back.

For the downloading of the images, we had to change several settings on the computer. The steps taken were:
1. Checked that the computer was reading the hardware device
right click My Computer, click on properties. click on hardware tab and click on device manager. The camera name should show up
2. Had to go into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Canon Camera Access Library. Checked if service was set as automatic, and stopped or started. In my case it was automatic but stopped
3. We then wnet into SSDP Discovery services and tunred that on to automatic and started.
4. then went back to the Canon Access Library to start the service.

Thanks.
