This is my first time testing the waters of RAW format. I'm completely new to RAW. Here is the situation. I have taken 5 pictures in RAW ONLY format. Windows nor any program (CS2, Windows Photo explorer, etc) except the EOSviewer Uility can see the .CR2 file. I can not for the life of me transfer the RAW pictures from my 20D to my computer. If Windows XP could see the file then I could fix my problem. But Windows Explorer does not see the RAW files.

Any suggestions on how to transfer RAW (.CR2) from my 20D to the computer.

Get a card reader. Then the RAW files will appear in Windows Explorer and you can transfer them. It is easier and faster.

You may also find this interesting once you get them on your computer (if you're using Windows XP)

Personally I'd go for the card reader - makes things a lot easier IMO

Card reader is best, but if you want to continue hooking up the camera dowload the latest upgrade of EOS Utility (vs. 2.0)

Get a card reader ... It is easier and faster.

And if your transferring from the cam & you get a glitch, (low battery), you could corrupt the files.

You may also find this interesting once you get them on your computer (if you're using Windows XP)
Microsoft RAW Viewer

Most everyone hated that when it first came out. Maybe it's better now?

Awesome tzalman! I had version 1.2. This works like a charm. I just used the updater from canon and the RAW images transport over to whatever program I want.

There is a program available called DPMagic which will allow viewing of RAW files in Windows. The "community" version is free.
