I just picked up a 5D from refurbdepot.com, was on the phone with thier support staff and was really pleased with the experience. Got my 5D for $2089 which was $100 less than adorama when they had them.

I bought my 5D refurb from Adorama. It is perfect in every way. I am very pleased with the camera and will buy refurb from Adorama again.

Why not try looking at the Canon outlet for refurbs via eBay?

My Adorama refurb came with a 90 day Adorama guarantee (time enough for any obvious defects to show up). I bought a 2 year MACK warranty for thereafter.

What all does a refurb entail? Do they change any wear items, or mostly clean/inspect?

Often a refurb comes right from Canon and you will not know what was wrong in the first place. Could be something as simple bad battery contacts or a complex as replacing the sensor. The seller rarely knows why it was refurbished.

My camera arrived yesterday. Had it shipped next day air so I would have it for this weekend. I was REALLY happy with the service and support from that company. I asked in advance if their was a problem with the camera what they would do for it and they said that they would replace it for free, I could send it to canon within 90 days for the usual referb warenty stuff or they would take it back with a 15% restocking fee. The fact that if it arrived DOA they would exchange it for free was the deciding factor. Go with them, I was really happy and it saved me $300 over the adorama referb price.

I read most of the reviews on this retailer and it was just a lot of people **** about the restocking fee. I knew I wanted the camera so this was a non-issue for me.

Ahhh so it's a DOA/problematic body that has been fixed and is new again. As opposed to a used, 'refreshed' body or whatever. So then refurbs would tend to have very low actuation counts?

I had always thought of refurbs as sort of a, how you say, certified pre-owned sort of a thing.

refurbs are all user returned items that are then sent back to the factory to get check over/repaired. Sometimes they'll be brand new and the buyer just returned it for some reason or another after getting it, or other times it suffered some kind of failure. I'm considering a refurbed 5D for my next body

Some people prefer buying refurbs (as in returned for any reason rather than ex-demo stock) because they know what they are buying is pretty much as good as new but will have also undergone thorough testing and repair (if required) that you do not get with new.

Better be the person who buys something after it has been checked to work perfectly then be the one who had to send it back!

Michael.

Comments, bribes, criticism, bribes, irrelevant anecdotes, and bribes always welcome.
EXIF is available inside all my photos, though bribes are still recommended anyway.
