Problem with text in Photoshop CS and 7

I have a psd file in RGB, 8 bit and am having a real problem with applying text. The text box is on the screen and even when I make the font size 1200 pts it is microscopic or basically not even there. I've opened another photo in the same mode and color bit in both CS and 7 and there is no problem. This tells me there is something I'm overlooking with the image itself.
Anyone have a suggestion?

I have since noticed something that I am not familiar with.
I opened another image and it displayed as (RGB/8 ) while the photo I am having trouble with displayed as (RGB/8#).
What is with the # sign?
