Bring the kids! Are they able/willing to walk 45 mins up to a waterfall?

I avoid missing Sunday worship, but would forgo that if it meant that you could come. If Wairere Falls is the place (not settled of course), I could go to the earlier morning service and catch up midday.

But that trip will use petrol, especially for Aucklanders. If the day is changed, perhaps for this one we could meet nearer Auckland. What's of photographic interest in the Hunuas? Or Miranda? It's too late for migratory birds, but we could shoot the birds around the hot pools.

thats kind of you to say that. our saturday church is morning to midday but usually isn't really over til 1:30 and then theres often some afternoon event with food in the middle so its really a whole day thing many weekends. there is the odd week out which has nothing planned for the afternoon, hard to predict tho and of course half the day's gone by then anyhow

my older one could walk 45 mins but not sure about the younger - might get antsy and dawdle/demand to be carried which would be a hassle for me

never really been to the hunuas but i think theres a waterfall there somewhere

yes, there is... then just below the surface are wrecked cars that have been dumped (or so I am told.)

We might have the GKPE bus eh Moppie? We can always carpool, and I can normally take 3 more people with me... 4 if you want to squeeze in and be chummy:p

John;)

I can generally get the bus on a Saturday easily enough, but on a Sunday its used as the Official Blokart race transporter.

As for which ever day it is, I'm not really bothered, I don't care for church, and I don't work weekends unless something really big has really broken.

For those who want to make it but can't because of other "commitments" you simply need to decide what has priority, and how your photography fits in with it as part of your life.

Location, however is going to be an interesting one, Im pretty easy as long as the light is interesting, and I don't mind traveling. We can share transport which makes a huge difference to petrol costs.

I like the sound of Clives idea, there are some interesting sights around the east coast, but sometimes you need a little local knowledge to find them. To date Clives track record for good days out is pretty good.

John has also given me an idea, operating theaters tend to have pretty good light set ups, and I'm sure we could give him a portrait he would never forget.........

So long and thanks for all the flash

I saw it as a matter of courtesy to consider whether we could accommodate members' situations by making a change on this occasion. It's been done before.

I also acknowledge that some GKPErs have to make an effort to fit in with the regular Saturdays that were the result of much early discussion.

i see

well for everyone who will give their input to this thread, my vote is for a daytime sunday gkpe, preferably nature venue, child friendly and not costing a fortune in either fees or fuel

i look forward to hearing the final decision

We do that from time to time, I have had my three year old along on some mini's she even brings her own camera. Still need to teach her how to say Moppie though

Yep that ones goes waaayyy back (to GKPE III I think?). Got locked down to Saturday when no one wanted to do Sunday. Makes it easier to have a fixed date, I even think we came up with a formula for the date, so we have them planned for the next 1000 or so years

Still checking my dates on this one...

Oh, I am so in for that - right after I rob the local bank.
I have a few stunning shots of Antarctica, that were sent to me a couple years back, by an old friend that was stationed there. Entirely jealous of anyone that gets the chance to go..
Incoming awwwww moment..

Te Aroha/Wairere Falls is the only reallistic location on the boards at the moment.

Where would you like to go?

So it was, and well argued too. Sorry.

It's been on my "do soon" list for a while and even got to the road end, but out of time. It was also mid-day and the sun was on the surrounding bush but not on the waterfall, making balanced exposures very difficult.

I would like to be there in the afternoon through to sunset, which I guess will be about 5.45pm If we do that, we may want lighting to see our way out.
