Hello POTN friends, here is my contribution for the weekend. These are from the Firehouse in Fort Wayne, IN.

This was kind of an interesting night, but turned out pretty fun after we initially drove to the wrong venue (the correct venue was about 4 miles from home as it turns out). Anyway...

Lighting was more or less constant red-ish ISO 1600 stuff. I was struggling with the reds quite a bit. Probably should have tried to do a custom WB. Exif can be found with the rest of the photos here:

2. Dust from 1000 Years. This photo is an exercise in Shadow/Highlights in photoshop...he just had to wear a visor...

5. Morrow again. Handed the camera to my wife and she took this. Face isn't in focus, but I still kind of like the shot, and it's framed as well as anything I took.

These photos are real sharp and well framed, with great subjects...

So my question is regarding the stage lighting you had to work under... You say it was red light...Was there a lot of red lighting or very "hot" light? (Was it very, very orange red?)...The general feel of all of these photos is a hint of the browns and reds ... That's the result I end up with after adjusting the "temperature" of "very, very red shots" in Photoshop... And am wondering what else can be done to recover some of the other colors...

Thanks for the comments.

The stage lighting was incandescent shop lights with red, orange and purple gels, so I had to underexpose in most cases to avoid blowing the reds. The blue lights in No.1 are at the back of the stage and pointing straight down against a curtain.
I used the color balance tool in ACR to take the edge off the reds, and did some more adjusting with 'Adjust for Skin Tones' and 'Remove Color Cast' in PSE, which are both 'eye dropper' type color correction tools. I can't say that I really know what I'm doing, but I was pretty happy with these considering what I was getting out of the camera. I think I've decided after some of my other attempts at color correction that it is definitely better to stop a little short of 'natural' than too go too far...and that is probably where the brownish/redish look is coming from. In addition to the color balancing, desaturating helps quite a bit too sometimes, which is what I did in No.7 (the guitar should be red, but I didn't take the time to do any masking). Of course, shooting RAW is a requirement.

The subjects were definitely fun. I pretty well aquainted with the guys in 'Dust'. The guy in No. 2 is in a clown suit, and the guy with the basketball is pretty um...eccentric. He plays drums in another band and typically ends up in just his underwear and sometimes not even that...I'm more inclined to be photographing him with the basketball on his head.

Our red lights must be similar cause my post processing results are also similar to yours... and it is the face, that is most obvious... sometimes it looks better in the stage light colors...
I process entirely in Photoshop, with an occasional final adjustment in one of Canon's software programs that came with the camera...

Hopefully someone else will read the details of our posts and respond with some additional feedback...

I like #3 and 4. Last one is cropped a *bit* too tight IMO.

I can't imagine shooting in such a dim venue, sigh ... I like #2 & #3.
