Powershot S3 - keeping photos in consecutive order

Hi

I have a Powershot S3 which I'm very happy with. However, whenever I delete a photo, the NEXT photo I take will automatically fill that "gap" and take on the number of the deleted photo. So the numbers no longer correspond to the order in which they were taken, and when I view them on the camera they are in the wrong order...

Any ideas how to change this? I used to have a Fuji which had a function to account for this.

Also, where can i get a printed manual for this camera (rather than a photocopy version)?

Thanks

camera-man

Are you, by any chance, set to "Automatic Reset" on file numbering? I haven't seen any Canon (or other) cameras that routinely "fill in the gaps" in file numbering.

I also find it easier to leave all (even the bad ones) shots on the card and delete only from the computer later. It's very hard to reliably assess photos on the small camera screen; even "bad" shots may have redeeming features when viewed at a more realistic size.

As for the manual, best chance is to contact your national Canon Parts Service.

I agree on deleting the unwanted exposures from the computer instead of from the camera. My S3 does not fill the gap and move up one if I do delete a shot. It must be a setting you have selected.

Just a thought - are the files numbered consecutively on the card and in the camera, or only after download? Assuming OP's still around . . .
