I'm looking into getting a macro lens as I love my macro filters but there just not close enough. So I'm looking at the Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Macro Di Lens or the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens. Does anyone own/used either of these and give and opinion on them.

hi ya i have only just got a sigma 150 macro before i used the kit lens and a set of tubes by jessops ,i only got the sigma becoz i was on top of the bugs with the kit lens and they ran away all the time but the kit lens is just as good as the sigma ,
so i would say get a set of tubes and save and save for the MP-E65 becoz you'll only endup getting one in the end

ps this is a shot with the kit lens and tubes EF-S 18 55

Whats a MP-E65 Courierman?

I was looking into getting some Jessops tubes but they don't me they don't always work with digital cameras and that if they don't work they won't give me a refund. So I thought I might as well put th money towards a lens rather than hit or misss tubes.

hmmm jessops tubes they work fine with my canon 400D see my pic the tubes give you about 2:1

the MP-E 65 is a 5:1 macro lens from canon for canon cameras 1:1 is life size and 5:1 is 5 X life size

Well by the sound of that the MP-E 65 is going to be expensive so I doubt I'd ever manage to save up for that. I think 1:1 will do for what I want to do and the photo I've seen on here many seem to be 1:1 with the odd person using extension tubes as well as a macro lens.

I know a lot of people on the net uses jessops extension tubes but as they haven't them in stock to try before I buy I don't want to risk losing £75 for nothing.

I use the Canon 60mm EF-S macro, and beside the fact that it's an EF-S, I would recommend it to anyone. It can do 1:1 and it's crazy sharp at f/2.8 even for portraits.

A sign? Do you mean a signature? Like under your reply with a list of equipment?

I've looked at the 60mm too but as I am interested in taking the odd photo of the odd bug I thought the extra length would be better as not to frighten them.

what you doing to scare 'em off? Keep the sun in front of you, don't make sudden movements and before long they will be perching on the end of your lens which is just as annoying. Robber flies and Dung flies are amongst are the boldest, white butterflies the most timid.

This is the reason I'm considering a back up camera.

Back up camera great but a flash unit as the backdrop? Not so good.
