I just realized that most people that find themselves content with 10D don't own a 1D or a 30D or might have never used a 1D Mark II for a day. Back when I had my 5 year old Honda Accord 1997 I thought it was the best thing ever. Once I bought a BMW I am never going back to Honda. I think that we just get used to what we have even if it's not the best out there. Is Honda low quality. Heck no. But the fact that there are so many other better things out there is the truth. Just my opinion.

Actually, I own a 20D and still appreciate the image quality of the 10D. It's a slower camera, but it's very substantial.

I just realized that most people that find themselves content with 10D don't own a 1D or a 30D or might have never used a 1D Mark II for a day.

Speaking for myself, I never saw enough of an upgrade from the 10D to the 20D or 30D to warrant chucking the 10D and spending that money for what little they offered. Yes, upgrading to a 5D or higher certainly would be a big advantage to me but at a much higher cost. I don't see the need as of yet to justify that cost for something when I am very happy with the results I get from my 10D.

I'm also not one to upgrade just to have the latest and greatest whatever it is that comes along. The 10D provides what I consider excellent results for my needs at a cost that also fits my needs.

I've always said if I hadn't had the 10D when the 20D or 30D came out, then it would have been logical to get the newer camera. Not saying anyone else doesn't have different needs just that those needs don't really concern me. As an example, one of the biggest things people bring up when comparing the 20D when it was new to the older 10D was start up time. I still scratch my head over this one as it has never been a concern to me. I've never missed a shot because of it.

If we all needed to have THE latest and greatest why wouldn't we all be shooting with a 1Ds MKII or even the Hasselblad H2D-39? Why don't we all live in a mountain top villa for that matter?

And BTW, a BMW also doesn't fit into everyones tastes or likes. I'll take my full size luxury conversion van anyday.

I think the point we were trying to make is that the 10D was good enough not to be enticed by the upgrades the 20/30D offered. It just did not make sense except for having the newest kid on the block. So it is more comparing a 2yr old Honda to a new Honda. Going to a 1D/1Ds body is not just an upgrade it is a totally different level altogether. Not sure where to place the 5D, it is as always a very contraversial camera that has caused some heated debates on this forum. I just found it a bit too expensive for a non pro body. Takes great photo's(most likely even better than the 1D series)
But anyway I think most of us had only the 20/30D in mind when we said that it made no sense in upgrading. I did anyway.
I was looking around for a good 2nd hand 1Ds body but have changed my mind and joined the masses and have ordered a 1D III. But as I said I do not think this is just an upgrade. This is another level. I will most likely be totally overwelmed by this camera and will take months to learn how to use it properly.

Great way to put it. hey I am on everyone's side, I have a 10D. Please let us know of your MK III. I can't decide if my next upgrade will be a 1D Mark II or Mk2N or Mk3.

I now have a 1Ds and although there is a world of differance in build quality and the higher output is great on the 1Ds the 10D is still a keeper and gives me great images... :):)

Use Canon 10D, 40D, 1D Mk1, 2 & Mk4 plus a 1Ds and 5D Mk2. Canon lenses (fav 24-105 f4L). Nikon D2HS and Fuji X Pro 1 & 2. Love um all

You shouldn't generalize. My ownership history goes XT/XT - 30D/XT - 1D/30D - 1D/1DII - 1DII/10D. When the first 10D took a dump on me, I sold it on eBay. I mulled it over for a bit and took chances for once having no backup, then bought another 10D and have been using it ever since. The 10D is my first grab for non-paid stuff and general dickerin' around, and it's very capable even when paired with the 1D II at weddings. It's a bit on the slow side for some tasks but a very beautiful machine.

Another happy 10d owner here.
Keep looking at the 5d's. But when you compare the price difference is it worth it!!.
I think buying some good glass, is the answer.

Hi all, new here. Didn't register until I read this.
10D, right? I have been using a D30. Yup, D30 with a 340MB IBM micro drive! Lenses, a 35-80 and 80-200 kit lens set up bought with the original film rebel i got back in 1994. Now you wanna talk PP!
Honestly though it is a great set-up until tomorrow when my 40D and 24-105L show up! Do i want to get rid of it, heck no, I love the thing. Planning on using it Monday as a back up at my nephews graduation.
So i say if you like what you got use it. Now all I need is an adapter to fit my K mount lenses from my K1000 to my D30 and I,ll be in.
Damn, I'm kicking it old school here. Damn I am old LOL.

I still use my 10D

I have the following cameras: 10D, 350D, 30D and a D60 that has been converted to full-time infrared.

I love all my cameras except the 350D which I only like. The IQ is just fine but, I do not like the controls or the size (despite having a grip).

I am going to Alaska this Summer and plan to take three cameras. The camera I will leave behind is not the 10D but, the 350D. The other three cameras take basically the same batteries and accessories.

The 10D is still a very viable tool and many of my favorite images have been taken with this camera. I especially like the 10D with my 300mm f/4L IS lens. Perhaps its the increased size and weight of the camera but, there is something about that combination that I love.

The lack of really high ISO capability on the 10D doesn't bother me at all. I never use it over ISO400 and IMO, it does just fine at that setting.

To each their own but ... It's a big step up but I think it was worth it! Can't even compare the two, really! However as I mentioned in another post, I find I use my 10D for more casual shooting and the 5D for more serious stuff. I think they are both great cameras and granted, the 5D is pricey compared to the 10D but it is a different class of camera.

And you are right ... good glass is probably more important than a new body. When I felt comfortable with the lens selection I had, then I got the 5D.
