afford = 20 month interest free?

i think our definition of afford differs :D .

Hi Ed, I think I chose my words poorly . I guess it was a case of "afford to take on the risk with an existing line of credit, knowing that I can pay it off before the interest free period is over" would have been better .

However, as you say:

By the time that I can afford a 5D, a 6D will be out.
Paying for my MBA school and my wife's MBA school drains anyone's money. Plus out trip to China wiped out any chance of me getting a 5D this year. Plus I have been eyeing the 70-200IS 2.8 for my bday present to myself.

Aha, but you've been to China and will cherish those memories for ages (I would think). I did a trip in India in 2001 and dearly wish I had digital then. Look at the 70-200 f/4 IS, I ordered a f2.8 but changed my mind for a couple of reasons - weight and quality. Although I'd like the extra stops, I thought I'd be happy with the f4.

i want to see how 5D and the new 16-35II combo...

Me too. I have a 10-22 on my 20D, which I love. I have been reading about the 16-35 MKII and am eagerly awaiting some sample shots to see how wide it is compared to the 24's I have. I think I read somewhere that 24mm on a FF camera is near 10mm on a 1.6 crop, but I'm not 100% sure.

10mm on an 1.6x camera is 16mm on a FF camera. ;) Dial your 10-22 to 15mm and that's about 24mm on a FF camera.

Whatever

Simon....

lol...actually I think it was a jealous reaction to the lens/ff combo...and yeah, I wish I could afford that right now.

You said that "lAthough I'd like the extra stops, I thought I'd be happy with the f4." you thought you be happy with the f4, are you saying that you are not happy?

No, no, sorry, that's not what I meant.

I should say "... I think I'll be happy...". Haven't got it yet, still on route from the US via work colleague.

No worries bacchanal, yes, the ol' "I can't see the good natured sarcasm" internet bug struck me well there. Sorry about that.

Find a company that pays you around 10% of your salary as part of an incentive scheme bonus and you'll then be able to (oh, and being single and not having a mortage helps too!).

Cheers,

Ok - so I thought I had my mind made up to get the 24-70 and then I see posts like this. I would love to have the extra 35mm of reach that the 24-105mm gives to use as a walkaround lens...

I'm thinking I have primes for portraiture and I might be better off with the 24-105 for an everyday type of lens?

The 24-105mm would be great on any FF camera. With the 5D's low noise at high ISO, plus the lens' IS, there's plenty you could do. Enjoy!

I've got the lens and I surely want the EOS 5D to go with it but its the 30D and me for the time being. Gotta put together a new Computer soon first.

Nice results you have.

Thanks calicokat and Tsmith for your comments on the photo's. kcp1377, I have the 24-70 too and love it for its low light results, but I haven't had them both on the 5D long enough to know if I will keep both or sell one :)

Tareq, I'll bear what you say in mind as I play over the Easter weekend. I am collecting my 70-200 f/4 IS off my 'courier' tomorrow, so I have heaps to do!
