Is anyone using Carl Zeiss lens with your Canon camera?
How are you using it?
Did you have to buy any mount adopter?
If so where did you get it?
Did mount adopter caused any focus misalignment?

Sorry for asking so many questions..
I am in love with the color that Carl Zeiss lenses give.. and I would very much like to use one of them.
Thank you for your time. :D

I have the 135mm Sonnar 135mm 3.5 and it's a stunning lens IMO. The adaptors can be had cheaply via ebay. I also had the 35mm 2.4 which is another absolute classic. I use mine in MF and AV mode. Meters fine and adjust aperture on the lens. Easy, tho' MF on DSLR's are not ideal. You can get a split focus screen and that helps.

Great! Thanks for the info.
About this split focus screen.. I know there is one you can buy for the 5D or any FF for that matter, but for the crop body like 30D.. where can I buy one?
Thanks again.

If one adapts a M42 screw mount to their Canon EF camera, is metering only via stop down? I would think one would need to stop down the lens to the aperture he/she wanted to use.

Correct, Camera in AV, focus, stop down, half press the shutter, camera will meter and set shutter speed then take the photo.

You not only can use Carl zeiss lenses but also a huge range of screw mount pearlers with the correct adapter.
apart from the focusing screen you can also get a mount with a focus confirmation chip which works well.
I have a czj 35 flektogon and the czj 135 f 3.5 the flek being an absolute stunner.

I tried an M42 lens with EOS adapter, and while I did like the feel of the old MF lens I bought, I really found MF on my 20D a pain in the ass.

I wasn't interested enough to go to the trouble and expense of installing a split focus screen, and in the end decided that I was happy enough with AF anyway!

How much better quality will you get with these lenses over the L quality Canon Glass?

I have a Takumar preset 200mm f3.5 which is nearly 40 years old.
It is sharper than my 70-200 f4L (obviously not as convenient)

The 35mm Flektogon is super sharp and doubles up as a macro lens of sorts.

eg.
shot taken at night with the 35mm
no pp apart from resizing for web
