lighting set up question

hey guys

im looking at getting a basic lighting set up going for studio and on location work.

was thinking of going along the lines of 2 420ex then trigger these off my 580ex

would this be a suitable set up would i be able to controll the power of the 420 ex or would i be better looking at the 430ex ?
