The general manager at work asked me to take solo portraits of everyone in the company for an online directory. In an attempt to get decent shots, I rented three calumet 750 travelite strobes, 24" x 32" softbox and a background kit. Having no experience with studio lighting, I tried a lighting set up that I read about on one of the "sticky" threads on this (excellent) forum.
The key light with softbox is set up at about a 45 degree angle placed with the front of the box about 3 - 3.5 feet from the subject and the light source is 6 - 7 feet off the ground. The fill light with umbrella is at around a 30 degree angle (from the camera) placed about 4 feet off the ground and 9 - 10 feet from the subject. Finally a hair light with umbrella is almost directly opposite from the key light and is about 7 - 8 feet off the ground.
Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the results, although it seems that the light could be a little softer/complimentary. Let me know what you think. Any suggestions?
The first shot is a self portrait and the second is a coworker.
C&C is welcome and appreciated. Thanks for looking.
Jared
