Hello.

I own a Canon Power Shot A70. The camera works perfectly, but it is the connection to the PC that is the problem. I recently installed XP after a year plagued by Windows ME (don't laugh) and when it came to re-install the camera software, everything seemed to work fine. However, next time I booted up the PC and connected the camera (I tried it through both USB 1.1 and 2.0 ports) the camera was not recognised by the computer as being plugged in. It is also not listed in the Scanner/Camera bit of Control Panel, nor does it appear in my Device Manager. I have tried removing all the Canon programs from my system, running it again, all to no avail. I have downloaded the latest drivers from the Canon website, but this doesn't work either. I have tried the troubleshooter in XP....still no joy. I am not sure, but it may be the case that there are conflicts with my USB2.0 broadband modem/its drivers as this is the only significant change in my system recently. If you have read this far, well done and thank you!

I'm really keen to get this one resolved so if anyone has any thoughts, please reply to this post or email me at neil@mclennan.eclipse.co.uk (external link)

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks again
Neil

Aberdeen,

I've come to this 'roadblock' once or twice with my A70 + WinXP every so often. I'll see if I can help ya out.

How's your updates for your WinXP? Are you up-to-date, according to Microshaft? ;) Are your USB 2.0 drivers updated for your particular motherboard (If it's Gateway/Dell, they have them on their support site) ;)

My 6-n-1 media card reader would "dissappear" from my device manager every once in awhile, but all I had to do is dis-connect, then re-connect it, and voila! With my A70, I'd just connect, then turn the cam "On" and it'd recognize and bring up the Windows XP Picture Download Manager. You can use the Canon software, of course, but I find it a little easier to use Windows.
