I have seen this on ebay and wondered if it is good enough to try and see how i get on with it, as i have never attempted any sort of studio type flash photography and thought this might be a cheap way to cut my teeth on to.

please let me know what you think.

There's a single word in the English language that describes that kit: Junk.

Maybe a better word would be ripoff, considering the price.

I bought a used setup similar to that for $15 US (maybe £7?) several years ago. Yes, the lights would create a flash. However, there was absolutely no adjustment of the output. The output level is on a par with the built-in flash on Canon SLR's. For the price I paid, it was not a bad for a first learning experience. I still have the umbrellas (standard white interiors, not the goofy silver/gold panels which I see no use for), so I got a reasonable value for my money then.

It's a case of you get what you pay for of course and I don't know what you're prepared to pay :-)

However, I don't know what others would say but MY first step forward was to get a Canon 580EX and it revolutionised the quality of my 'people' pictures - indoors and out and I still use it depsite moving into buying some specialised studio kit from Bowens (Calumet) which I'm loving by the way. I am only an enthusiastic hobbyist BTW, not a pro by any stretch but that 580 sure helped me on my way!
