I just had the following image printed into a large poster size (24x36"), the largest I've ever gone, and I was very impressed with the result -- hardly any loss of details. I'd love to see the type of images that other POTN members felt urged to turn them into posters for wall hanging. Would like to learn about: 1) image type and size; 2) who printed it; 3) what size; 4) where does it hang? Please limit to just ONE that represents your BEST or FAVORITE -- any size over 11x14.

Here's mine:

1) Jpeg (from RAW) about 7mb
2) Sam's Club
3) 24x36"
4) Hangs above our piano for inspiration...

Hi

Good shot!

I have enlarged this one to 20x30 with no pixelation. Took it with my 350D. I have it mounted on foamboard and stuck to the wall in my living room.

I'm a fan of big pictures and have enlarged a quite a few. I have a mkIIn now, and am going to see how big I can get the files.

Big is beautiful.

Mike

Nice shot SYS: Garden of the God's/Pike's Peak, correct?

What steps do you generally do for an image that size before sending to printer?

(Do you do the upsizing, or let the lab handle that? Extra sharpening?)

Thanks. Yes, it is the Garden of the Gods with the Pikes Peak background and the Kissing Camel in front -- everything but the moon.... The moon and the clouds surrounding it were imported from my own backyard. :D

I didn't mess with any "extra" step outside of the normal PP for the above image (or any other). I shoot everything in RAW and then convert to JPEG, that's all. Like I stated, the image above, once saved to JPEG, came to about 7mb. I don't know what kind of machine the Sam's Club has, but I was quite impressed that hardly any details were lost for the size of the print. I was skeptical prior to sending the job and I ain't no more!! :D

Given the quality of the print, I really think I can sell this poster for $100 per print. It costed me about $20 at Sam's Club for the print, by the way.

Nice shot, too, Mike! When you said you mounted it on a foamboard, did you do this yourself or a company did it for you? I want to be able to do this type of task myself, but my previous attempts didn't come out very well....:(

I did it myself.

I spray the board with 3M scotch spray glue, then grab each end of the picture and place it centre first on the board, then out to the edges. Wipe over with a clean cloth to get rid of any bubbles. Next turn it over and using a good quality scalpel and ruler, cut around from behind.

Important to use a steel ruler of 1 meter long, and stick strips of sandpaper to the bottom of it with double sided sticky tape to stop it slipping mid cut. (never put this side on to of a photo as I did once)

Also when cutting, I put a couple of layers of cardboard underneath, placed in the direction of the lines in the cardboard.

This one was sold to a parent who presented it to a senior football player at our annual banquet.

1. Jpeg (from RAW).
2. Winkflash printed it. They rock!
3. 24"x36"
4. Not sure where it hangs. It was for a customer.

This hangs in my living room at 24x36. I've so far been unsuccessful in selling prints of it but I won't give up.
