thanks guys! byrno, i actually wasn't aiming for reddish, and i can't decide why it's there. sometimes i think velvia vision does that a little, but sometimes i think it's a bit green. and...i didn't use it on all shots. on the other hand, the dirt really IS that red here. lots of clay, and well...i guess that's why they call it The Red River (which it really was after all the rain friday nite!). it may also be white balance. i didn't shoot raw because i was after max frames, but i did use my expo disc, so i think colors are accurate.

at the end of the day, i decided it was sort of an optical illusion because of all the red dirt. i dunno....is it bad?

i just thought of something else....i work on an hp 15" laptop that's uncalibrated and lighting conditions vary....wildly. one of my pro shooter bros says uncalibrated adds magenta, so maybe that's it?

I think it's a whitebalance issue.
An uncalibrated monitor may be unclaibrated in any direction not just magenta.

This shot has had an auto WB applied to the left side from the middle of the helmet.

that's what is so cool about this board - i feel like i learn something new every time i put images up. there is no doubt the red cast is there, but i couldn't see it until somebody pointed it out. on my home monitor, it's not as bad, but looking at nordie's correction, it's clearly there. i actually think, however, i can blame it on the camera. all those shots were actually in "shade" mode rather than custom. i really think because there was so much red in the stadium that everything picked up a color cast, and it really shows in the white objects. is that stinkin' thinkin"?

i opened each file and after a couple different solutions, decided a simple "auto color" was a good fix. nordie, is that what you meant when you said you applied an auto white balance? i use ps cs and that's not a button i have.

new images are on my website.

I shoot supercross also, Mine always come out reddish when i'm using auto white balance at night. I stick with raw so I can correct it.

Here is what I get..

I have never liked any of the results I get when I hit auto color.........jacks it up every time. If that's what you did it totally explains the werid color. A Expodisc is the best & quickest way to deal with that..........IMO. Unless you want to shoot RAW......personally I never do because it's just to much processing. Now if I was getting paid I might shoot it, but for me the JPG's seem to work fine.

if you mean auto color in photoshop, i did that AFTER i got the wierd red tinge. that was there from the get-go. for whatever reason, using the "shade" white balance setting ended up being too red. i know it's going to be warmer, but not like that!

i normally would never use auto color in ps, either, but hey...if it works...
