I know a few of the Already 1D'ers are looking at upgrading to the new Mark III, but for some of us wanting to take the leap into investing in a 1D the transition might be worth a little further investigtion.

I’ve been weighing up the pros/cons* (*not many) of moving to a 1D series body way before the release of the mark III.
I’m at a position where I can afford it, but find myself toying with a few other possibilities.

1D Mark III or 1D Mark II N + 5D (OR)

1D Mark III or 1D Mark II N + Hasseblad XPAN (love this camera)

I haven’t quite found an area in which I’d like to concentrate on so Wildlife and Landscape photography are my main interests. Whilst the Mark III has 10fps (great for Sports/Action) the 8.5FPS that the 1D Mark IIN will me more than enough for a lot of people, the same can be said on the focus system, the Mark IIN with 45 point focus system vs. Mark III 45point + Cross point focus is negatable.
But here is the but “Dynamic Range” – will the 1D mark III offer better Dynamic Range (measurable) against the 5D and Mark IIN? (As more reviews appear I hope to get the answer)

From my point of view it looks as if the 1D mark III is a culmination of the 5D with its high ISO low noise capability and the Mark II N Focus/Speed.

So am I better off just buying the 1D Mark III or the 5D + Mark IIN?

The 1DMIIN and 5D sounds like an awesome combo to me

Well, you would get a speed demon with weather sealing and full frame goodness and resolution with the above combo. The MIII is going to awesome, but not as awesome as the above two camera's combined

I vote for that too.

EDIT: Ahh I meant 1D mark III plus 5D

I sold my 1D Mark IIN to get the Mark III. 5D plus Mark III would be a killer combination. The speed of 5D is too slow compared to a 1 series. The other day at the zoo I was taking multiple photos fast, not using burst but hitting shutterbutton and releasing it fast. I was doing this at a speed that got me a busy message several times for a second or so.

Easy decision.

You get the best of both worlds if you go for the 5D + 1DN combo.

I agree. A 5D and 1DMkIIN would be an excellent combination.

I think I've already argued this point before . . . 5D and 1D Mark IIn.

Don't forget that you would also have a non "full size" camera for when you want to go light with this set also. And usually when you "go light" you don't need the speed.

This is a very good point as well

The 5D and 1D2N would be my choice. I was contemplating upgrading my 1D2N to the 1DIII but decided the extra cost would be better going towards the 5D.

For what you want to do, I'd even say just the 1d2n and a some specialized glass (tilt-shift for landscapes or long prime for wildlife). Plus, top shelf camera support adds up too (tripod, leveling base, ball head, gimbal head, plates, panning base).
