After doing a shoot recently, I found it awkward capturing a baby of 11 weeks of age. The reason - They cant sit up, they cant lift there heads, I didnt like the idea of propping the baby up, I wanted a more natural look, and really wanted baby on he's own.
So lets see what I could have done, by seeing your pics.

I know what you mean about posing a little one. all these were the kids I have done recently at 6 months or less.

Yep it is a hard age because of what you mentioned.. plus they often don't feel secure unless being held or very close to a parent.

Here's a few of my youngest son in that age range.

2 months:

It gets sooo much easier once they can sit up though I must admit.

I would either lay the baby flat and be over the baby, prop baby on a sofa... prop baby on a bouncer chair (draping it in black or some other 'background').. could use a swing even to drape and prop baby in. Boppy pillows are great for that as well.

I found using a bean bag chair made me neice feel more secure. It moulded to her body and she was wedged right in there.

I use their car baby seat. They "know" the seat, it is comfortable for them and it was manufactured specifically for babies. I almost always use a high key background, so I take a large white bed sheet, fold it so the color of the baby seat won't show through, and I lay it across the entire seat so none of the seat shows through then I place the baby into the car seat. The white background and the white sheet all blend together. I shoot from a slightly elevated position, and sometimes I even place a short 2 x 4 under the back side of the seat so it will lean forward a little more.

I don't have a handy image.

Here is a couple that I took. The first one is my daughter laying on the couch with a white sheet. The second one is of my daughter in a laundry basket that I got from Walmart. She was about 2-3 months old when these pictures were taken. However, she has been able to hold her head up for quite awhile.
