I've just ordered these and I wondered if they are any good?

Will they help me to achieve good looking portraits?

5 energy saving lightbulbs inside a softbox for 279.99? (British) Whatever that equals to in American money!

For the money, I don't think it's worth it. But, if you feel that it will improve your portraiture, then practice practice, practice!

(1 500 watt light bulb on a rheostat in an umbrella is a heck of lot cheaper.)

Wouldn't the time to ask this question be before you ordered them?

You could get some decent studio flash equipment for that kind of money. I wouldn't even consider buying the fluorescent light rigs.

No good and probably will complicate your portrait work because of color temp issues.

Ya gotta wonder? I think it's called 'post' advice and followed by a pat on the back or kick in the butt. Sorry, no pat here.

Purplegem1985 - some of the comments above are harsh. I hope they don't discourage you. I understand the desire to move forward with equipment. I also understand slim budgets for it. I would suggest seeing if you can return those lights and find a better deal. Read the stickies in the lighting forum and make another selection.

Thanks for your comment.. at least someone could reply without making me looking like a right prat!

As you can probably gather I had no idea when I ordered them. I'm going to try them out when I get them and see from there.
