Nikon NC?

What do you guys think? I just got a 135L and some filters. For my 135L I decided to get a Nikon NC, I remember my Nikon buddy using it on some of his excellent glass, and he never saw any degrading in image quality.
I got Hoya S-hmc for my cheaper lenses. Probably harder to clean, but they will probably get less use in general.

Is this thread going to get no responses because it has Nikon in the name?
Guess what?
I bought a nikon 62mm cap, and will buy 2 58mm, a 77 and a 72 when I find them for the rest of my lenses. They work.

i think that the reason why this thread gets no responses is because you didn't ask any questions or made a point. you said you got the Nikon NC because it gives great results. the only response possible is "great" in my opinion....

Oh, I'm curious what people think of them, if they use them, and how they compare to B&W and Hoya.

see, now that makes perfect sense and should have been in your first post :) anyway, i have not used them but i did use a few Hoya's. altough the Hoya is great, i think that i will not buy them anymore because cleaning them is quite a pain. i am sure that Nikon knows how to make glass so i am sure that your NC will do quite nicely. i also know that Sigma makes a few filters and they are great where in contrast, the canon filter that i bought when i started out was a joke.

I had a thread about Sigma's, they are supose to be bad.
I'm going for Hoya's for all my other lenses that aren't high priority / going to be used as much as the 135L.
I'm curious why they are hard to clean, I've heard this before. My friend cleans his NC / lenses with eclipse optical fluid and pec pads, and it works beautifully, that stuff dries instantly, I would think it's fine for Hoya's too?

i think that the hoya has some sort of coating on their glass which is hard to clean. last month i was shooting with a hoya cpl, b+w UV and Hitech UV and the hoya took way longer to clean. btw, i clean my filters and lenses with the giotto lens cleaning solution and it does work great.

I think the gittos lens cleaning solution that came with my rocket blower is junk. I think I used it before when my friend didn't have his eclipse. He was surprised how bad of streaking it left and how poor it was overall.

Anyone else? I can't be the only one using this type of filter. Well, I am on a Canon forum, LOL.

the cleaning solution with the rocket blower kit works great for me as well.

I think the reason why you're not getting as many responses is that if you look at the filter threads.
Most people don't use filters! We use the hood as a means for protection.
The rest who do use filters seems to be using UV ones.
From the ones who do use the NC types, I believe they're using the Hoya brand!
I think you're the first person I've seen that is using a Nikon filter thus far. :)

I read your thread yesterday, I was going to respond with "Cool! thanks for the info" because there wasn't really much else to say lol

I don't think Hoya or BW makes NC?
A lot of people use filters for a means of protection I think?
I have seen and heard of the Nikon NC from a lot of Nikon users, but nothing on this forum or Canon users.

I wouldn't know, I'm one of those few who won't use a filter unless I'm headed to the beach or somewhere where it's probably a good idea to keep one on lol

I always thought most people ignored filters and just used the hoods as a means for protection.

Edit- here's a thread. https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=241194
It's usually UV or no UV filter. NC is hardly taken in consideration. :) Just read through that you'll understand.

But why? UV is no different then NC when it comes to what it does / it's purpose. It's just a layer of glass for protection.
PS, I used to have the same thought, but I realized how big my lenses were with hoods, and sometimes when I'm shooting on street and want to be low-pro, no hood = good, so UV/NC will need to be my protection then.

with your logic, there wouldn't be a difference between ND filters and NC filters since they're all filters and the purpose of filters is to offer some protectection. BUT that's not the case since each filter also has a set of unique properties. UV blocks some UV light. The NC/neutral filter is just a clear lens and has no additional feature.

It all depends on the photographer and how often he or she shoots in certain locales which may require certain items and/or actions. I also take the hood off at times to blend into the crowd but I don't often find myself in a situation where I would need to therefore I don't think it's worthwhile to put an expensive filter on some of my lenses. Since the filter will cost about 1/7 or 1/3 of the lens itself, I just can't seem to bring myself to put one on the lens. However, i will put one on my more expensive investments. To each their own :D

Bobby, this thread is not intended to debate if you want to use a protection filter. I'm sorry, I could care less in this discussion whether or not you think it's smart, and if you agree to using one.
I never have heard of somebody using a UV filter to block UV'S out, anybody who knew even a little about photog atleast.
I am questoning what people think about the Nikon NC in comparison to Hoya and B+W high end UV filters.
