I was sitting on a jetty waiting for flying birds that never showed... bored to bits I photographed a 2-inch bubble that sailed by on the water. I think it came out cooler than I expected, what say you - is this anything?

GREAT SHOT! I espeically like the first one. The second one seems to have less "context". Very nice, and this is the perfect answer to the Significant Other question, "Why are you taking a picture of that?"

Thanks!

People do look at you like you're mad sometimes, pointing the camera at totally uninteresting objects... :D

Semi-abstract, or minimalistic photography can be the greatest peice of wall material if you do not want a definite subject.

"Why are you taking a picture of that?"

:D Yeah, I used to get that all the time!

Nice shots! You could probably sell a few thousand of 'em!

Interesting shots! I prefer the first as well. I wonder if it might work a tad better if the bubble was off-center...Probably not as I think about it. So much for the rules :)

Absolutely gorgeous. Well done for thinking laterally. How did you get the water to look so silky?

Thanks everyone for your nice comments!

I agree on the composition, I generally don't like to leave objects centered. I've tried a couple of crops (the best is probably cutting off a bit on the left and the bottom) but I felt I was removing some of the context with each attempt. I'll try some more...

The camera was set to ISO 400 as I was waiting for flying birds, so the images came out a little noisy. I prcessed them quite aggressively in Neatimage and Intellisharpen to get the silky/sharp combination. And the usual color/curves/saturation of course.

Maybe your instincts against cropping are right? IMNSHO, look at #1 again. The dark area above & to the left (ripple) creates a diagonal & plays off against the dark area above the (C) notice at the bottom right. Then there's the diagonal coming down from the upper right. It all creates a nice frame for the bubble & leads my eye around the pic.

If I were to crop it at all, maybe a small amount from the left edge. Make a couple of prints. Put one on the 'fridge & one in the bathroom. Then see which one grows on you the most over time.
