Crop ratios

This is something I've been curious for a while.
Do you guys ever use the crop tool, without a specific ratio (cropping freely ignoring ratios.)
I for one, don't. I always am either cropping 2:3, 1:1, 4:5, 5:7. Maybe on the rare occasion I'll try 16:9. The only time I think I would not use any of these ratios and maybe crop freely is a panorama, but even then I think I'd find a super wide ratio I like. I crop with these ratios to whatever I think is the best fit / crops tightest to what I want.

I think it makes crops look less like crops (especially really extreme ones.)

Depends where the image is headed.

I generally don't crop for anything other than fixing a crooked horizon or for print size. If I want to display a print in some odd aspect ratio, I cut a mat for that particular reveal.

Sometimes a subject requires a random crop that will not fit any standard ratio.
Because of the stuff I had to crop out of this one, I had to go with a very non-standard crop:

Once I cut the mats and mounted it, it worked really well in a long narrow frame.

90% of the time I use "standard" ratios like 11x14, 12x18, 20x30, etc.
