Can't transfer raw files to PC

I have a 350D which I've had for about 18 months and have been shooting RAW for about 15 of those.

Today for the first time I've been out shooting for the day, came home to transfer them to the PC and have run into a problem.

I can see all the files on the Camera LCD but when I try to transfer them using Zoombrowser I either get a timeout or it displays them before download but most of them have a yellow and black background with a question mark on it. I've never had this problem before.

I've tried Windows explorer to find them manually on the card but it tells me no files exist...but I can see them on the LCD.

Can someone suggest how I can get them off the camera and onto the PC?

Thanks,

Brian

I don’t know how you managed to transfer files using ZoomBrowser in the past, but if you connect camera directly, I suggest trying EOS Utility.
For that, you have to set Communication to PC Connection (not Print/PTP) on your camera.

I'd suggest using a card reader... solves alot of different transfer problems.

Invest in a good card reader. They are very cheap and save you the trouble (and battery) of having to transfer directly from the camera.

Okay than, you just have to check Menu >> Settings 2 (wrench & hammer icon) >> Communication.
Set it to PC Connection and you should be able to download your pictures.

Windows Explorer is good only if you use card reader.
It will now show picture files if memory card is in camera.

Are you transferring over the USB cable, or do you have a card reader? What version of Windows? What kind of CF card? Can you think of anything that is different from before?

I had a similar problem (with JPEGs) on a brand new CF card. Something wasn't recorded right on the card, and the PC (Win2K) couldn't read the pictures from the card reader even though they showed fine in the camera (Rebel XT). I bought a new reader and that didn't help. I was able to successfully download them over the USB cable using EOS Utility, though. I returned that CF card and got a new one that works fine.

You might also try one of the recovery programs.

Once you get them downloaded, be sure to format that card IN CAMERA.

Cheers everyone. Doug you're a star. Your most reminded me that a couple of weeks ago I added a USB extension cable for remote shooting and as it's 5m in length plus the 1.8 m camera usb cable it couldn't cope with the download. I placed the camera cable in a spare usb port and it downloaded without any problems.

Cheers guys for a swift response. :D
