Need Help with Ilford Profiles

Hello - I'm hoping I can ask this question in this thread rather than start another. I have a canon i9900 and Ilford Smooth Pearl 13x19 paper. I've downloaded the profile for this paper and followed the directions to copy it to windows/system32....... It appears when I'm in PS and decide to change the profile (I can choose the ILFORD).

BUT

I use DPP for 95% of my printing when I go to preferences to choose the printing profile I do not see the Ilford paper profile at all? Is there another place this profile should be copied?

Any help appreciated..
George

ps - i rebooted etc thinking after i copied to the profiles directory maybe i had to before it could be seen in dpp. (v3.0.0.3)

sorry to bump this thread but I still haven't solved the problem. Maybe these screens will help.

The images on the left are what they look like in photo shop. The images on the right are what they look like in the canon print preview. what prints out is pretty close to the canon print preview. Top two images are sRGB colour profile and the bottom two are Monitor RGB profile

Below is a comparison between sRGB and Adobe RGB in Design Photo Professional. Notice the Adobe RGB image looks lighter and more grainy? depending on the image this can be very noticable.

In DPP go to preferences > Color Management > Printing profile

This is from DPP or PS or both?
Judging from the first post all settings are correct. Only problem is the image is untagged. And your monitor calibration is likely to be off.
One more time: Calibrate the monitor and *DO NOT* use your monitor profile as a working space. It isn't one.

I suspect you mean DPP? (Digital Photo Professional)

I have to look very close to see any difference at all. I suspect your monitor calibration is *way* off (way too light).

A few posts back I posted an example image. Click it to DL the .psd file, and have a look at the various layers in PS. If your screen and settings are correct, you'll hardly see any changes between the layers. Some of the changes will only be visible because the images are overlayed...

Go to the monitor test link in the link from my sig.
If your monitor is not calibrated (more or less) okay, the other steps of color manageing will be a futile excercise...

I'll post some screenshots in a sec.

Update: DLed your screenshot and the original image.
Something is definately screwed...

Your screenshot in sRGB looks *way* too light. Only way I can get it this light in PS is to adjust the middle slider in 'levels' to about 1,5.
The bottom left image where you assigned the monitor profile (?), looks about right. (Looks spot on if I assign sRGB to the screenshot)

At first I thought the problem is in your monitor profile somehow.
That doesn't explain (at least I haven't been able to come up with an explanation) why the print preview is so dark. That is not correct.

In the screenshot of your color settings it says "Monitor RGB - Color profile for Windows". While I'm no Windows expert, I'd think it should display the actual name of the profile there (in my case it says "Monitor RGB - LaCie.icc")

Have you tried soft proofing? (View > Proof Setup > Custom. Then select your printer/paper profile and rendering intent).
I'm curious if that also makes the image overly dark, or if it mimics PS in being too light...

Here is a screenshot of the image, and the soft proof, using Relative Colorimetric and Black point compensation: (Some Ilford profile for my printer, but gives the idea)

That's how it *should* look like...
You can see the profiles in the lower left corner.

If you gohere (external link), halfway down the page there are a few monitor test patterns...
