Until recently I've been stuck on getting a 1dmk2n. But then I'm today I'm seriously thinking again about my opinion.

I shoot mostly portraits for money, and cover some car shows and sports for fun and some small money.. I was thinking that a 1dmk2n would be a good all around camera for this. But now that I'm thinking about it I'm very wrong. With average prices around $2800-$3000 for the 1dmk2n and $2000-$2200 for the 1dmk2. hummm....

Maybe I should just get a 1dmk2, and get a 5d also?

What are average prices for used 5d's?

i have been tossing back and forth between the two as well...if you are making most of your money on portraits then go with the 5D - that's a no-brainer. sure it won't have the fps like the 1dmk2n for sports, but 3fps is a small sacrifice for the quality and DOF control you'll have with the 5D. Personally i am opting for the 1dmk2n because i predominantly shoot sports, climbing and wildlife - all of which benefit from the faster AF, slightly tighter crop and more rugged build.

I'm looking into used 5D's as well, most I've seen have been between $2000 and $2300.

I personally think the 5D hubbub about being awesome for portraits is overblown. Sure it's great...but seriously how much does that matter in the final product? I doubt most clients would see a difference, or even you once you got through the processing and such and actually printed it out.

I guess if you always view everything at 100% then there's a significant difference.

Then again I do have to admit I haven't (knowingly) seen a print from a 5D, nor a 1D Mark II/n, let alone compared the two.

I was until recently satisfying clients with an inadequate 10D and 30D...

1DmkII and 5D definitly sounds like a sick combo. im considering doing the same thing (except the mkIIN and the 5D instead of the mkIII).

on the other hand if you dont want/need two bodies the mkIIN should work great for everything.

That's the price range I thought they were going for. Same as the 1dmk2

I think I'll probably end up getting both. Don't really care if the 1dmk2n has a larger screen especially if I can save 600+ to put towards a 5d

It's just bad luck that on one is selling their 5d's or 1dmk2's anymore :(

Yeah I'd rather have one body that can do it all but I've read many places that the 5d far performs the 1dmk2n in the studio which is where I spend most my time. I wish I had access to both bodies so I could see for myself which I prefer and which has the best results but oh well.

Yeah that release date couldn't come any sooner.

I swear to god I have at least 23 people calling and emailing me asking when I will be taking dates again. I sold both of my cameras that I had become comfortable with and now I'm using a rebel to hold me over...

Having no camera has put me in such a crappy mood lately and I spend countless hours staring at the buy/sell section here and at FM. :(

I want my life back!!

Same here, I was satisfying clients greatly with prints from my 30d. But looking at 100% zooms and post processing made me sad with all the uglyness!! I guess really i'm just upgrading for personal satisfaction. But you're right, I don't think any clients would be able to tell the quality difference from 5d and 30d. Even my gf and her family is happy with quick prints that I made of the 2 of us at walmart

Yeah @ Wal-Mart. I know some people have low standards but I honestly don't think a 5D vs 1D II/n would make or break you.

I plan on getting a 1D II (maybe III but doubtful) because even the 1D original is beautiful in print and I'd rather maintain speed, build, and sealing than give that up for a bit of IQ that most people would never even see.

I mean in the sense of selling off your 2 main bodies and waiting for the next big thing. Most professionals don't sell their bread & butter until well after it's been replaced and fully tested.
