Curious on what people think of their general site for use as a gallery.

If you're serious about storing , selling and print work , they are definately worth considering. Otherwise, IMO, its just a waste of money.

If youre just looking for storage without the fuss, etc, use flickr.

I'm very happy with it. My main reason was to sell photos not just for sharing. I like the fact that you can customize your page to look just like a web page.

I am very happy with my smugmug website. They just upgraded the photo viewer so now it's more snappy, loading images in the background so they are immediately available for viewing.

The support is great! It is done through dGrin, a user forum, and smugmug has two or three employees that help immensely with any issues. I have heard of them redoing prints for free for even small user errors.

If you're going to sign up, you can use my referral code (MLRyNzytplEMQ) to save yourself $5 off the price.

I use my smugmug for galleries and not for selling. I'm perfectly willing to spend a little money for the look and the ease of use that smugmug offers. (Flickr reminds me of YouTube.)

If you are considering Smugmug - you should also check out Zenfolio. Both are great sites that do what they are intended to do very well. Zen, to me however, is the better bang for your photo hosting dollar.

I recently moved from Smugmug to Zenfolio. I wasn't looking to sell online and I don't like Flickr at all. I simply wanted something to host my pictures and allow password control in a simple and easy way.

Smugmug has been great, but the price is the main reason I've moved to Zenfolio. Its just as easy to use, just as jazzy to look at and you can configure its looks to your liking. Read through the links as posted by ssim, there is a host of information on there.

My Canon can.. I just need to find out how

the layout, their logo plastered all over, poor quality prints, inability to set your own prices unless you pay the max, little customization. Its fine for snapshots for the family, but if you are selling, I would look elsewhere

Are the prints actually of poor quality, or is it the result of improperly prepared photographs for "their" printing method?

I am used to having to readjust my photographs for anywhere I have to print. Anytime my work is used for something, I provide it to spec for that printer. It makes perfect sense to me.

Besides the powered by Smugmug down at the bottom of the page I don't see were there logo is plastered all over the page. The layout is endless as it supports endless CSS customization. I can set any price I want for $150 a year. I did a lot of searching and there are better sites but most were $50 to $60 a month. If you own your own domain name you can even loose the smugmug from the site address.

I would definitely recommend Zenfolio. Just signed up for a 14day trial and so far I'm very impressed! You can customize your galleries, decide which images people can purchase and limit the size available for download etc etc...
