I have a weird problem with Lightroom. When I plug in my card to the reader the Lightroom Import window comes up and I choose my options:

Import by Copying files and convert to DNG.
All Photos are Imported to a folder titled To Be Sorted.
I set LR to Import into subfolders by date.
I check all folders and images to be imported.
I backup to a folder titled Needing Backup.
I apply my Copyright.
I apply keywords if possible.
I do NOT check Render Previews.

LR then does its thing but for some reason I always get a pop up window telling me that LR could not import XXX files because they were not readable (usually between 1 and 5 files). However I can go directly back into the import process and select those photos manually and import them without problems. Does anyone else have this problem? IT is a pain to have to write down the file names and then go back in and import them. This also doesn't allow me to view my last import as it will only be the 1-5 files thqat didn't Import the first time.

I am running Win XP and allow LR to do it's thing without any interuptions from me.

Hmm...
I had that happen last week... I assumed (wrongly perhaps after reading your post) that the images were corrupt, I didn't look any further into it. (My battery was reading low when shooting, but never died.) They weren't anything special, just some practice shots with lighting flowers and still-life, so it didn't even faze me until I saw your post.

Same thing, about 2 or 3 out of 30+- images came up with that error.

I'll have to check it later, not sure if I formatted card already or not. If its doing that regularly, I'd say you've got a bug report to submit.... also may want to take a look at the Adobe Forums (if you can stand all the mudslinging there.)

I had the same thing happen once. Not sure what the cause was but I haven't seen it again.

Weird. So others have noticed it but not on every Import?

I am also losing a few images per card on import... kind of bizaare. It doesn't seem to happen if I copy from card to drive, and then import.... so maybe its a timing thing.

Any word from your "connection" when we can expect a 1.1? ;)

This is the exact reason I bought into Lightroom before the April 30th price hike. I figured some good things were coming.

I thought I heard from somewhere (maybe here) that Lightroom may be different from other Adobe products in terms of more regular updates to improve functionality... but this may just be a rumor, mind you.

All I know is:

FYI, there's a bunch of new features coming in 1.1, so you may want to hold off on the book.
_______________
1.1 upgrades are almost always free with any application. 1.1 1.2 1.3, etc. are considered minor upgrades. 2.0 is where you pay again (typically).

I'm testing 1.1 now, but they haven't given a release date.
_______________
You could save the library, as mentioned, or you could wait for Lightroom 1.1. (I'm not being evasive for fun, I legally can't say much!)
_______________
Not entirely true, but Photoshop has much more capability to edit individual images--for sure. LR can do spot healing, color adjustments, vignetting, sharpening (wait till 1.1, the sharpening is much better!), cropping, rotating, level adjustments, contrast adjustments, saturation adjustments, whitepoint adjustments, etc.

I have noticed the exact same failure to download 1 file per 1 gig download from card reader. This happens about half the time but has not occurred if I download outside lightroom and then import as noted above.
