I am also having the same problem - for every card I import! It's a pain in the butt.

FYI, I am using a MBP running LR 1.0.

Same here, 1 file per card gets me an error message - and then it imports it anyway.
Also sometimes get "The file size is too large" But it's like a 3mb Jpeg??

The import problem is a known bug with the 1.0 release. It happens most often when importing off a card, rather than off a local hard drive, and happens most often when importing large numbers of file.

Best workaround at the moment is to copy the images on to the hard drive and then import into LR from there. If it still misses files, tell it to import the folder again, and it will skip the files it's already got, and pick up any missing ones.

LR will run on a different upgrade schedule to the rest of the suite, and the rumoured 1.1 release is confirmed but there is no official release date yet, other than 'soon'. I'll post the details as soon as I can, but I'm not at liberty to do so yet.

I'm with you all, Every import be it through camera or card reader one file is always unreadable but like in2 said gobackk grab it and it comes through fine. I thought maybe I had a bad card or something with my puter. Guess not.

Never had a problem in 7600 images, but I never read off the card; I connect with a USB cable and download automatically with ZoomBrowser, then import into two copies of LR at the original location.

I have had the same experience with files not import. I have found though, that I write down the file name and go back to import just those list and they have imported fine.

I didn't hve this problem when I imported the 15,000 + images already on my drive either. The problem is definately narrowed down to importing from an external card.

This is what I do as well. Just a pain though if you ask me.

Do you need to write down the names? Or can you just try to reimport all from card again, and let it ignore the duplicates?

Honestly, since I saw the problem, I don't even import from card now, I just put it on HD first.

You can do it either way.

The reason I use Lightroom to ingest the files is that I can convert to DNG, rename, create duplicates of the original files for backup, create my starting point with a preset, add metadata and keywords all in 1 step while placing my files in folders seperated by date (which makes them easier to add additional keywords and cull, as well as sort).

Same problem here. And it is a hassle to have to go back and import the files that can't be read manually through Windows and then import from the HD. It defeats the whole purpose of workflow.

Too true... but as Victoria stated, its a known problem, and hopefully 1.1 update will address this, until then we will have to make due.

I've turned off Adobe Downloader or whatever it's called because of this problem. I've gone back to my old method of copying and pasting from the card to a folder on the hard drive. It's not hard, complicated, nor time consuming, and I can be sure that Adobe's download app isn't mucking around with my originals. The auto-download was a minor convenience, so it's no big loss.

You don't have to select the missing ones. When I have this happen - sometimes but not often - I just re-run the import as Victoria mentioned. The ignore duplicates function just picks those that weren't picked up first time around and always seems to get them on the second pass. A pretty quick job as the ignoring section hardly takes any time.
