I've had this issue now several times. I am running LR 1.1 on a MacBook.
During the last months, I had this import problem almost every time I got the pictures off my card (which was in my camera). I didn't pay much attention to it because I thought that maybe the problem was a corrupt file.
But last week it imported only 3 out of 20 files and that concerned me. If I start up LR, connect my camera it takes forever to recognize the camera (this is a recent phenomenon, it usually took no more than 5-10 seconds, now about 2 mins) and then it only shows me a certain number of pictures and others are just plain grey boxes.
I close the import dialog, click on IMPORT in the Grid View and then it works. It bothers me quite a bit and I hope there will be a fix soon.

Just visited this thread and have the same problem - only found out going back into various browser views elsewhere and realised that quite a few were missed, some not converted to .dng.

This is quite an issue ....

Ever since I updated to 1.1 I have only had 1 file out of thousands not be imported. I thought the problem was solved. Guess not for some.

I've never had Lightroom do this to me, in either 1.0 or 1.1. Of course, I'm not using Lightroom to download from my card... I download with DowloaderPro from Breeze Systems because I use a unique filenaming protocol. I then import into Lightroom from my hard drive. The other thing I'm not doing that some are is converting to dng. This may have something to do with the missed files.

Missing files have nothing to do with DNG, because I've experienced this problem but have never converted to DNG. It's just the Adobe Downloader that comes with Lightroom that is problematic. For my money it's safest to just copy and paste the files through Windows Explorer or use a different downloader program like JWright does instead of hoping that Lightroom's downloader doesn't screw up. Once the files are copied to the desired folder, import them from within Lightroom.

I used to use the drag-and-drop method of downloading from my card reader to my computer... Until I missed an entire folder (the 20D creates a new folder every 100 images) and then formatted the card right away. It was at that point I bought DownloaderPro.

Yeah that problem is only when using LR to download from card... I haven't even bothered with 1.1 yet... after the problems with 1.0 I'm just in the habit now of drag-n-drop from card reader.

I'm having a problem that sounds like it might some how be related to the problem being discussed and need some help. I just a bought a 40d and tried to inport the raw files into Lightroom v1. I got a weird message "File was not imported. The file uses and unsupported color mode." Has anyone got an idea what is going on here? I had to fix my Elements 5.O to handle the raw files by downloading and replacing the camera raw file. Any body got any solutions?
