Hello there, since I only do this (generally) at weddings I thought I would post it here but it may be in the wrong place.

I was shooting a wedding this weekend, I like to drag the shutter a little on some dance shots and have the flash fire on the 2nd curtain sync.

I set my 1dmk2 cf15 to 1 - 2nd curtain sync and fired away.

With shutter times from 1/15 - 2 seconds, the flash fired as soon as I popped the shutter and not just as it was closing,

When I was shooting Nikon, my SB28DX would pop when the shutter was about to close,

am I doing something wrong ?

I don't have a Mk2, but I've always set 2nd curtain on my flash unit rather than on the body and it's worked.

At a dance environment I'd use 1st curtain sync .. you can drag the shutter without using 2nd curtain sync and still maintain the same effect with people dancing etc., as their motion is erratic and not consistent like a car with lights passing by.

Plus you can maintain control over the exact timing of the flash with 1st curtain sync so the results (capturing expressions, etc.) are more predictable.

If you are talking about the 580, there is a 2nd curtain sync button. It's combined with the High Speed Sync button. Push it once and HSS is on, push it twice and 2CS is on. Push it again and it's back to normal. It is between the Mode and Zoom buttons.
