ok guys first of all, Iwant to say hi to all of you since this is my first post on these forums. I have been reading the forums for about 3 months now and its been very helpful.

now to the question, I have my canon cam(xti/400d) along with it I have the "kit lens" 18-55 and for my teles I have a sigma 70-200 f/2.8 EX DG APO(I just got this one two days ago and haven't been able to play with it)

ok maybe its going to be more than one question, hehe

I am going to shoot mainly basketball in the next couple of months because my kid is in a tournament at the local ymca. semi pro sports, basketball mainly too, some soccer.

my questions are...

--what do you guys think of the 70-200 sigma that I have? is it good or are there are better choices at that price range? I know the canon 2.8 L is good but its not in my price range at the moment.

--another question is, I'm going to sell my kit lens to get a better one that can do more or less the same, wide and overall good walking lens; thats what I want to get. In short a better "kit lens".

I dont want to spend a fortune on it either but I don't want to sacrifice a lot of IQ because of it. I don't know if that made sense hehe

--last but not least, I want a TC for my sigma tele, any recomendations for it? sometimes I go to big events and can't get that close to the action and in need of the extra reach. let me know on this one as the TC is my next purchase, along with my new kit lens replacement.

thank you all,
and trust me, I will be here for a long time, these forums helped me a lot on deciding what to get.

Are you shooting indoor or outdoor basketball? For sports, of the two lenses you own, the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 is probably the one I would lean towards. I've never shot with or own this lens, so I'm just basing my opinion on the fact that the faster aperture lens will help in focusing.

i'll look into that one blonde, thanks. now the other questions, the tc for the tele, what is a good one for the sigma I have?

thanks again

also the replacement for the kit lens, I might consider keeping the kit lens but I think I can put the money that its worth(not much) towards a little better lens

Kit lens will serve you well for wide-ish type of shots until you get infected with the disease and buy some decent WA.
Keep it, it'll find it's place for the first year.

i use the Kenko Pro 300 DG and it is an excellent TC. i have also heard great things about the sigma TC's but i have no first hand experience with them. you can find the Kenko for around $130 on ebay all the time. as for the replacment for your kit lens, i got a canon 17-40 f4L to replace mine and it is a great lens. however, you should also check the tamron 17-50 f2.8 and the sigma (i think that it is 17-70 but i am not sure).

hey guys thanks, Im researching all those lenses, the thing Im more worried about is the TC, as I have no idea on where to start looking because i've never used one before. If anyone has some first hand experience with diferent tc's let me know, the thing that concerns me the most is IQ, I've heard some of the tc's degrade the image too much. I'm stepping out for maybe an hr or so and will be back to see if I got anymore reply's thanks people for all your help.
